First Half 2005 Sales Top $15 Million The Siegel firm’s auction sales for the first half of 2005 were $13,851,685 hammer (or $15,236,854 with the 10% premium). Sales are listed below (adjusted for returns):
The Siegel firm’s 75th anniversary was celebrated with one of the largest Rarities sales ever, held in two parts with a sold total of $5.6 million hammer. The highlight of the Rarities sale was the record price paid for an Inverted “Jenny”—$577,500 for Position 58, ex Zoellner, which was graded XF-Superb 95 by PSE. Scott R. Trepel, president of the firm, commented on the results for January-June 2005: “Behind the $15 million total are two significant factors: diversity in content and innovative marketing. We offered Essays/Proofs, Duck Prints, First Day Covers, Western Expresses and British Colonies, as well as some of the finest U.S. stamps to hit the market in years. And we held a successful co-marketing campaign with the McCusker firm to sell First Days from the Martin estate. More than 6,000 lots drew thousands of bidders. That’s how the Siegel firm is able to produce great results.”
