Lot Sym. Lot Description Realized
121 (S) image24c Green & Violet (120). Unused (no gum), bright colors, wide well-balanced margins all around, trivial natural wood fiber inclusion at bottom

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE. RARE WITH SUCH WIDE MARGINS.

The 24c 1869 Pictorial is notoriously difficult to find well-centered. With 1983 P.F. certificate (Image)

$ 1,700
124 (S) image30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Unused (few traces of original gum), incredibly rich colors, well-centered

EXTREMELY FINE AND CHOICE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE.

With 1990 P.F. certificate (Image)

$ 1,500
125 image30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Wide margins, cancelled solely by well-struck red "1d" British rate handstamp that was usually applied to the cover itself to indicate postage due from colonial British post offices, this is the only stamp we have seen with the "1d" as the only cancellation, Extremely Fine, ex Grunin (Image) $ 1,400
126 image30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Well-centered, bright colors, bold U.S. Postal Agency in Shanghai circle of wedges cancel, Extremely Fine and choice, with 1998 P.F. certificate declining opinion on the origin of the cancel, our own research of 1869 issue stamps and covers convinces us that this is one of the distinctive cancels used at Shanghai (Image) $ 1,500
127 BL image30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Block of four, bright colors, black ink "brushstroke" cancel typical of most used multiples but much lighter, also trace of magenta cancel, bottom right stamp corner crease

VERY FINE. AN UNUSUALLY CHOICE USED BLOCK OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE.

Of the used multiples recorded, this block is the most attractive (Image)

$ 2,000
129 C image30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Tied by circle of wedges and used with three singles of 2c Brown (113) tied slightly overlapping each other and 30c stamp on cover to Torino, Italy, red "New-York Paid All Br. Transit Apr. 30" circular datestamp, transit (Milano 14 May 1870) and receiving backstamps, carried aboard the Cunarder Nemesis which departed New York on April 30 and arrived at Queenstown on May 9, cover with two small tears at top

VERY FINE. ONE OF TWO RECORDED 30-CENT 1869 COVERS TO ITALY.

The correct double rate was 38c. It is possible that this cover has had a fourth 2c stamp removed from near the 30c stamp, although accompanying 1975 P.F. certificate states "genuine" (Image)
