Venetian Letters, 15th-16th Century. Two: first is 1464 letter from
Doge Cristoforo Moro (said to have been the original "Othello" of
Shakespeare), sent to an envoy in Albania, unusual double "X" marking
indicates that the letter was likely accompanied by an armed convoy, second
is 1519 letter from Doge Lorenzo Loredan addressed made of Donkey skin, to
Venetial ambassador in Verona, several historical markings indicating
method of delivery (Cito, also mounted courier), contents concern payments
to German Emperor Maximilian I in execution of the truce formed at the
peace of Brussels, both are Very Fine and interesting items |
