touched, bright color and very sharp impression, thick paper typical of the
earliest impressions, grid cancel, shallow thin spotFINE. AN
EXTREMELY DESIRABLE EXAMPLE OF THE RARE MAURITIUS 1-PENNY POST PAID
EARLIEST IMPRESSION. The first stamps of Mauritius were engraved
directly onto two copper plates. The plates wore away relatively quickly,
and so only a very limited number of impressions qualify as the
