covers in two shoe boxes, approximately 30 No. 10's, 230 No. 11's, 100 No.
25's and well over 400 No. 26's (there may be some No. 26a's as well), wide
variety of towns, some plated, plate varieties, some of the imperfs with
four margins but otherwise typical plating quality, mixed condition,

3c 1851-57 Issue Covers. 150+ covers, about two-thirds 1851
imperforate incl. several Orange Brown No. 10's, wide variety of town
cancellations and usages incl. colored postmarks, numerals, auxiliary
markings, U.S. Express Mail, Independent State usage, Salt Lake City U.T.,
lady's envelopes, patriotic, etc., almost all were bought individually from
small postal history auctions in the 1970's and 80's (many $50 to $150 per
cover), generally Very Fine, a wonderful lot which gives the collector
plenty of choice covers, enormous retail value for the cover dealer |

3c 1851-57 Issue Covers. Massive study collection of 377 covers,
incl. Nos. 10 (13), 11 (101) and 25 (263), virtually all of the No. 25's
plated incl. Plate 4 (35), Plate 5L (27), Plate 6 (24), Plate 7 (94) and
Plate 8 (21), only nine are unplated, range of shades and usages incl. few
multiple frankings, few advertising covers, one railroad on No. 25, few
other interesting, mixed condition FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE
ACCUMULATION OF PLATED COVERS, INCLUDING 263 COVERS BEARING THE 3-CENT
PERFORATED TYPE I, SCOTT 25. A SPECIALIST'S DREAM. Scott Retail as

1861-68 Issue Covers. Approximately 100 choice covers, wide range of
stamps and usages, many better incl. combinations for 15c rate to France,

3c 1861-67 Issue Covers. Approximately 400 covers, wide range of
towns, some better markings, a few fancy cancellations, the covers in the
shoebox are mostly a "calendar" of dates and we note quite a few
month/day/year circular datestamps beginning on August 22, 1861 and
continues on throughout the Pink and Rose Pink probable use period, there
are certainly a number of Rose Pinks and even a couple very "Pinkish" (if
not Pink stamps, the earliest date for Nos. 64 and 64b is August 17, 1861,
and for the Rose No. 65 August 19, 1861), the other part of the lot is a
collection of Washington D.C. covers about 65% of which are Nos. 65, 88 or
94, in addition there are a few non-3c covers as No. 77 used to France with
purple Philadelphia Foreign Mail circular datestamp, single use No. 86 on
drop letter and a No. 98 used to Switzerland, condition varies from Good to
Very Fine, excellent lot for the specialist |
