VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE MIXED-FRANKING COVER FROM VENEZUELA TO NEW YORK WITH THE DANISH WEST INDIES SECOND ISSUE AND 10-CENT 1861 ISSUE. THE DANISH WEST INDIES STAMP IS RARELY SEEN TIED BY THE ST. THOMAS DATESTAMP ON SUCH MIXED-FRANKING COVERS.

This cover was carried from St. Thomas to New York on the U.S. & Brazil Mail Steam Ship Company's Merrimack, departing May 15 and arriving May 22, corresponding to the postmark dates on this cover.

Pkt. 19 Paid May 28" circular datestamp on small cover to London, England, receiving backstamp (Jun. 9, 1862), small stain at center of cover, otherwise fresh and perfect, the stamp is Very Fine and has the richest Steel Blue color we have encountered in a long time, the result of having been purchased in the 1941 Knapp sale and hidden in the dark for 66 years (Knapp lot label affixed, his source notation on back "'Widow Nolen' Collection", Knapp paid $100 in 1925!)
