Revolutionary War Letter.
Folded letter datelined "Camps on Winterhill, Aug. 15, 1775" and
addressed to Pembrooke Va., some interesting contents incl. "the troops
sent out vesels to buy provisions to the Est they came to the people and
told them that they wanted to trade with them they refused to trade with
them then they threatnd to fire the town next morning they told them they
would consider next morn they took and borded their ship took 39 Ragulars
10 torys...they pursued seven days when he found he was likd to be taken he
runs away and left the Ragulars...", some splitting along folds and

Stampless Covers. The "Big Horn" collection, comprising
approximately 400 carefully-chosen stampless covers across a wide range of
states, lots of unusual rate markings and fancy town datestamps incl.
Hartford Conn. negative monogram (the presence of a black datestamp and
magenta datestamp with seal gives this the appearance of a postmaster's
provisional), "St. Augustine Fl. T.", "Tallahassee Flo." oval, "Boston"
straightline, "New-York" clamshell, "Detroit Mic. T." oval, "Newport Rhode
Island" green oval, "Portsmouth N.H." green oval with War Rate, Wheeling
Va. "Paid 3" with rays, "Morningville P.O. Westchester Co N.Y" boxed
handstamp, Huntsville Ala. 5c coin, several Philadelphia "R" handstamps, a
few Canadian and cross-border, some with corner cards, a few Independent
Mails, the "ordinary" town datestamps are usually red or blue and very
clearly struck, not too many manuscript postmarks, generally Very Fine, the
product of years spent acquiring covers from postal history sales in the
1970's and 80's, almost all in the $20 to $75 price range, some cost $100+
years ago, worth careful examination and an aggressive bid |
