Large margins to clear at bottom, tied by "San Francisco Cal. 20 May" circular datestamp on blue folded cover to Rushville N.Y., bold red "Honolulu*U.S. Postage Paid*May 1" circular datestamp, this probably sailed on the Yankee in 1856, stamp torn across upper right corner, both stamp and cover toned, lettersheet with internal reinforcement at folds causing stains, otherwise Fine and very scarce single use of the 12c 1851 from Hawaii, ex Honolulu Advertiser (Image) E. 750-1,000 2,300.00

Large margins to cut in at left and bottom, placed -- uncancelled- - over red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid Sep. 8" circular datestamp on small cover to Mrs. Goodale in Marlborough Mass., stamp partly lifted to show offset of Honolulu datestamp on back, confirming the stamp was affixed by the Honolulu postmaster to indicate payment of the 10c U.S. rate and 2c ship fee -- at a glance the stamp appears cancelled, so this may have been enough to convince the U.S. post office clerk to leave it be -- Fine and interesting single usage of the 12c 1851 from Hawaii, ex Honolulu Advertiser (Image) E. 750-1,000 900.00

Two, used as forwarding postage on legal-size cover from Hawaii to Boston and re-mailed to Centre Harbor N.H., red "Honolulu Hawaiian-Islands Jul. 18" circular datestamp, "San Francisco Cal. Aug. 3, 1860" circular datestamp, blue crayon "2" covered by stamps, which are tied by large "Paid" grid with corresponding red "Boston Ms. Aug. 29, 1860" circular datestamp, enclosure explains that the envelope arrived open and letter was read by the addressee's brother, edgewear and small faults, left stamp creased and torn, still Fine and presentable, an unusual usage, the two 3c stamps paid for forwarding, but it is unclear how the U.S. postage for the first leg was collected (Image) E. 400-500 575.00
