12c Black (17). Large
margins to cut in at left and bottom, placed -- uncancelled- - over
red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid Sep. 8" circular datestamp on small
cover to Mrs. Goodale in Marlborough Mass., stamp partly lifted to show
offset of Honolulu datestamp on back, confirming the stamp was affixed by
the Honolulu postmaster to indicate payment of the 10c U.S. rate and 2c
ship fee -- at a glance the stamp appears cancelled, so this may have been
enough to convince the U.S. post office clerk to leave it be -- Fine and
interesting single usage of the 12c 1851 from Hawaii, ex Honolulu

3, 1860" circular datestamp, blue crayon "2" covered by stamps, which are
tied by large "Paid" grid with corresponding red "Boston Ms. Aug. 29, 1860"
circular datestamp, enclosure explains that the envelope arrived open and
letter was read by the addressee's brother, edgewear and small faults, left
stamp creased and torn, still Fine and presentable, an unusual usage, the
two 3c stamps paid for forwarding, but it is unclear how the U.S. postage
