Folded letter datelined "Boston, Feby 24, 1844" to a Mr. William Howard, "Ship Vandalia of Boston/Coast of California" originally forwarded by Goodhue & Co. of New York who applied their red oval handstamp, marking it "Via Vera Cruz," this was received in Tepic where it was then marked (in ms.), "Rec'd in Tepic the 20th April & forw'd/the 1st of May 1844/Your ob'tSr/Barron Forbes & Co.", sent by Barron Forbes & Co. to C. Brewer in Honolulu, who marked it "Honolulu July 5/44/Recd & Fowarded by/Brewer & Co.", small tear from opening affecting "5/44"

VERY FINE. ONE OF THREE COVERS REPORTED BY GREGORY WITH BREWER AND COMPANY'S FORWARDING MARK, ALL IN MANUSCRIPT. THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING TRIPLE-FORWARDER USAGE.

The two-page letter from B. T. Reed is part business (a shipment of letters and papers) and part personal, including a request to tell "Capt. Everett of the death of his father by apoplexy."
