4164° c image1864, 2c Rose Vermilion (31). Three, each cancelled by bold sharp strike of Negative "HI" in Oval cancel (Ty. 151), red "G.P.O. Honolulu Paid All Nov. 1" double-circle datestamp (Ty. 277.12) on buff cover to New Bedford Mass., magenta "San Francisco Paid All Nov. 26" transit and New Bedford receiving datestamps on back, few small spots and perf toning on stamps, otherwise Very Fine, a lovely three-strike example of the "HI" oval (Image) E. 500-750 425.00

Honolulu, Paid All, Nov. 1" double-circle datestamp (Ty. 277.12) on cover to Warren Goodale at Empire City, Ore., magenta "San Francisco Paid All Nov. 19" backstamp, slightly reduced at right, minor toning, still Very Fine, rare combination for double treaty rate, carried on the R. W. Wood (departed Nov. 2, 1872), ex Pietsch (Image) E. 1,000-1,500 600.00

Eight incl. strip of four, tied by 3-ring segmented target cancel (Ty. 117), purple "Honolulu Hawaii Feb. 13" circular datestamp (Ty. 235.12) on piece with intact address to Auburn Mass., stamps lifted and reaffixed, faults but presentable and exhibit-worthy, a very rare multiple usage, the Honolulu datestamp is scarce in purple (Image) E. 400-500 225.00

Horizontal pair, tied by 3-ring segmented target (Ty. 117), red "Honolulu Hawaii Jan. 26" circular datestamp on double-rate 1883 cover to Boston and forwarded to Chelsea Mass., with ms. ship endorsement "Per 'Kalahaua'", light edgewear, Fine, ex Honolulu Advertiser (Image) E. 200-300 225.00
4168° c image1871, 6c Yellow Green (33). Tied by 3-ring target with center pin cancel (Ty. 119), red "G.P.O. Honolulu, Paid All, Nov. 21" double-circle datestamp (Ty. 277.12) on yellow cover to San Francisco with "John Neill, Machinist, Lock and Gun Smith, Also Sewing Machines and Material.." advertising card across top and billboard ads on back for six different advertisers, including H. I. Nolte (coffee and billiard saloon), Challamel & Co. (wine importers), M. McInerny (shoes and clothing), S. K. Rawson (watchmaker, with illustration of pocket watch), C. E. Williams (furniture) and Dillingham & Co. (hardware), each with street address in Honolulu, red "San Francisco Paid All Dec. 2" receiving datestamp, docketed at right, stamp has corner crease and couple short perfs, tiny nick in edge of cover at lower right, still Very Fine, one of the most striking of the few billboard advertising covers known from Hawaii, ex Norbeck and Pietsch (Image) E. 1,500-2,000 3,500.00

Tied by 3-ring target with 3-hole punch applied at Honolulu (Ty. 116), two strikes of "Makawao Post Office Mar. 27" originating circular datestamp (Ty. 243.22, Rarity 1RRR) on bright buff cover to Brimfield Mass., red "Honolulu H.I. Paid All Apr. 4, 1878" rimless datestamp, bold magenta "San Francisco Paid All Apr. 15" transit datestamp, some very trivial edgewear, Very Fine, the two distinctive large circular datestamps were introduced by W. L. Davis, postmaster from 1877 to 1880, Gregory reports ten examples of this "Makawao Post Office" variety, the three-punch target was applied at Honolulu (in its earliest state, the cancel pierces the paper -- this is an intermediate state leaving impressions in the paper, but not puncturing it) (Image) E. 1,500-2,000 0.00
