VERY FINE AND ONE OF THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE RAISED "2" NUMERAL VARIETY ON A FULL COVER.

The Honolulu Advertiser collection contained a full cover and cover front with the Raised "2" variety, and the Pietsch collection contained a full cover from the Atherton collection. This example is the third complete cover with the rare Type IX Raised "2" Numeral stamp known to us. (Image)

FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE EXTREMELY RARE "NTER" NUMERAL ISSUE PLATE VARIETY.

As an indication of rarity, the Honolulu Advertiser collection contained only two examples of the "NTER" variety (both Position 4, Plates 3-E and 3-F), while the Pietsch collection contained this stamp and an enigmatic example from Position 7 on Plate 3-E. We have not offered any other examples since keeping computerized records more than ten years ago.

Plate 3-G, Type X, Position 10, last letter of "ISLAND" shows tiny trace of missing curve, thus creating the rare "ISLANI" variety which is unlisted in Scott but recognized by specialists, also showing a badly battered numeral, large even margins, lightly cancelled by edge of square grid

EXTREMELY FINE. ONE OF THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THE 1863 2-CENT "ISLANI" PLATE VARIETY.

The "ISLANI" variety is found on Plate 3-F (Type III, Position 1, and Type V, Position 5) and Plate 3-G (Type X, Position 10).

Sereno Bishop at Lahaina, Maui, Fine, this rare unlisted variety was caused by a spacer rising to the surface and appears only on some of the Type VII stamps printed from Plate 3-E, ex Worthington, D'Assis and Pietsch (Image) E. 1,500-2,000 2,700.00
