AN EXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ON A REGISTERED COVER FROM SAN FRANCISCO. ONLY 23 OF THE 76 RECORDED 24-CENT COVERS ARE DOMESTIC USAGES. THIS IS CERTAINLY AMONG THE FINEST IN TERMS OF QUALITY AND USAGE.

The majority of 24c 1869 domestic usages are courthouse covers with unsightly docketing and faults. This cover is exceptional for the usage between California post offices and the condition of the stamp and overall appearance. The 24c pays the triple 3c postage plus 15c registration fee (see lot 1045 for identical usage with 12c 1869 pair).

Signed Ashbrook. Ex Newbury and "Lafayette" (Image)
