rightVERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING COMBINATION OF ELEMENTS -- THE SCARCE VANCOUVER ISLAND CUSTOMS CROWN-CIRCLE, EXPRESS USAGE FROM VICTORIA AND LOCAL POST SERVICE PROVIDED BY BLOOD'S PENNY POST. QUITE POSSIBLY UNIQUE AND CERTAINLY OF THE HIGHEST EXHIBITION QUALITY. There are thirteen reported examples of the Vancouver Island customs seal used by Vancouver Island postmaster A. C. Anderson to indicate payment of 2-1/2p local postage (used July 1858-June 1859). We do not know of another example used in combination with Blood's service. (Image) |

Extremely Fine, it is interesting that the cover offered in lot 1167 and
this cover were both carried by Wells, Fargo & Co. and postmarked by
Blood's Penny Post on Sep. 29 at 11 A.M. (presumably 1858). Apparently,
they were given to Blood's for delivery at the same time. (Image) |
