by "Baltimore Md. Nov. 24" circular datestamp with matching "1" in circle
drop letter rate handstamp on brown folded cover, locally addressedAN EXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE RARE GREEN BALTIMORE SEMI-OFFICIAL CARRIER. VERY FEW COVERS BEARING THIS STAMP ARE KNOWN, AND THIS IS BY FAR THE FINEST OF THE TWO OR THREE WITH THE POSTMARK TYING THE STAMP. The 1c Green and 1c Red on White are the rarest of the Baltimore semi-official carrier stamps. Many of the examples on cover are uncancelled or cancelled only by manuscript pen or pencil. Our survey of major carrier collections produced only two or three covers with the 1c Green satisfactorily tied by the government handstamp, of which this is superior in quality. It is also very rare as a drop letter usage. With 1994 P.F. certificate (Image) |
