1c Blue, Eagle Carrier
(LO2). Full to large margins, bright color, used with 1c Blue, Ty.
IV (9) on D. O. Blood & Co., Red on Buff entire (15LU6A) to the Eastern
Penitentiary in Philadelphia, each stamp cancelled by red star, 1c
1851 (small margins to slightly in) has been lifted and moved from its
original position over red embossed stamp where traces of gum and toning
effectively "tie" the stamp to the cover (same for LO2), vertical fold,
minor edgewear, a Fine and remarkable cover, the usage is open to
interpretation, possibly dropped in a Blood's box but deemed undeliverable
and stamped by them with the carrier and drop postage, or perhaps the
sender applied the stamps after determining that Blood's would not be able
to deliver the letter to the penitentiary, ex Waterhouse and Middendorf (Image) |
