VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE SET OF 1878 SERIES BEER STAMP PROOFS.

The frame of each proof is typographed, and the vignettes are engraved. All but the 33-1/3c are without the plate letter and position number. These were described in Turner as plate proofs, which could be correct, although the absence of plate letters and numbers is more suggestive of die proofs. (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE. AN IMMACULATE SET OF 1898 SERIES BEER STAMP PROOFS.

This set, printed on bright India paper, is in remarkable contrast to the issued 1898 Series stamps on dark blue paper. Although the vignettes do not have the plate letters and numbers, Turner lists these as plate proofs, not die proofs. (Image)
