always and mounted on stamp-size piece of India paper, intense shade, Very
Fine example of this scarce essay and in better condition than most,
according to an essay published in Ashbrook's One-Cent book, a 6c stamp was
contemplated to pay the single-letter rate for distances over 3,000 miles,
according to Brazer it appears that the 6c was changed to 1c because of the
