The Lake Shore Collection Part Four: United States Essays and Proofs continued...

1867 Essays (Unknown Authors)
Lot Sym. Lot Description
1111 E image2c Bronze & Violet, Re-Use Prevention Essay (79-E2b). U.S. 10mm high, original gum, h.r., part of design punched out, small tear at top

VERY FINE APPEARANCE AND EXTREMELY RARE. ONLY A VERY FEW OF THESE RE-USE PREVENTION ESSAYS ARE KNOWN.

Unlike some other essays of this type which are folded designs, this re-use essay was pierced with "S"-shaped cuts, with the numeral cut out. This made the stamp too fragile, preventing its reuse.

Ex Finkelburg. Illustrated in Scott Catalogue. With 2005 P.F. certificate. (Image)
