U.S. City Despatch Post, New
York N.Y., 3c Black on Blue Green Glazed (6LB5). Position 6L, two large
margins, other sides ample, tied by red "SHIP" handstamp, matching
"New-York Sep. 2" circular datestamp on folded cover to New York City,
docketed "Randolph & Tracy, Jany 1 invoice Sep. 2, 1843",
addressee's name rather crudely erased and re-inked (possibly changed),
otherwise Fine, this cover solves the mystery of another cover with the
same markings and dates (Hall collection, Sale 830, lot 147), but with only
two letters of the "Ship" marking appearing as "SB" -- in fact, both
entered the New York post office as ship letters
