Tied by well-struck "Syracuse N.Y. May 10, 1859" circular datestamp on
"Mons. Carlincourt, Aeronaut" illustrated cover, addressed to to
Carlincourt in Utica N.Y., small cover repair at top is barely
noticeableVERY FINE. A MAGNIFICENT EARLY BALLOON-RELATED COVER WITH THE CARLINCOURT DESIGN.
Carlincourt was the name T. S. C. Lowe assumed early in his career as an aeronaut. His first flight was in Ottawa, Canada in 1858. He made several flights in the northeast before twice attempting a transatlantic balloon flight, first in 1859 and again in 1860.

by neat strike of "Lancaster Pa. May 18, 1859" circular datestamp on cover
with Wise balloon illustration and addressed to Carlincourt in Utica
N.Y., minor wear, Very Fine, Carlincourt was the pseudonym of Lowe, one of
Wise's contemporaries in pioneer balloon flights

Plymouth, clear strike of blue "Mechanicsburg Ind." Eagle, Stars and
Branches fancy town handstamp with ms. "Decr. 28" date, with
original 1860 enclosure, some wear, Very Fine strike of the Mechanicsburg

Horizontal strip of three, few perf separations prior to use, used with
1c Blue, Ty. II (20) and tied by clear strike of "Paid" in
circle handstamps on buff cover to Downieville Cal., bold strike of
"Rome N.Y. Jan. 18, 1858" circular datestamp, minor edgewear, right 3c
stamp small fault at top right, otherwise Very Fine, attractive and scarce
franking with the 3c Type I stamps (Image)

Two covers, each with selvage at side, one with part imprint and "4P" of
plate no., cancelled by grid, "Brownville N.T. Jan. 7" circular
datestamp on Grand Lodge of Nebraska illustrated corner card cover
to Logansport Ind., other with selvage at right and with part imprint
and "22P" of plate no., tied (between perfs) by penstrokes, matching
indistinct ms. pmk. on cover, slightly reduced at left, both with some
overall wear, Very Fine, attractive and scarce with the plate no. selvage

Cancelled by pen on orange cover to Bristol R.I., docketing at left reads
"Camp on Big Coon Creek Colorado, Oct. 12th 1861", also with ms.
"Rec'd. P.O. Fort Larned Kans. 16 October/61", fresh and Very Fine,
scarce usage, carried outside of the mails from Colorado to Kans., Fort
Larned was not a regular post office until 1866 and so this was probably
carried with other military mail to Fort Riley

ms. "Via O L mail" overland mail endorsement, stamp with corner torn

cover to Andover Mass., accompanied by similarly-illustrated enclosure
dated Dec. 13, 1858 (does not originate but goes well), missing top flap,
