Horizontal pair, brilliant color, tied by "A05" oval grid, "Bahamas FE 15, 1864" backstamp on cover to Georgetown Del., stamps also tied by "New York Br. Pkt. Feb. 20" circular datestamp, "10" in circle due handstamp, sender's instructions at left, barely reduced at right and some edgewear, Very Fine appearance, rare double-rate franking, ex Ayre, with 1972 B.P.A. certificate (Image) E. 1,500-2,000
1094 c imageBARBADOS, 1859, 6p Rose Red (8). Large margins to just in at bottom right, tied by "1" oval grid and "Steamship 10" in circle handstamps, "Barbadoes MR 13, 1861" backstamp on cover to Philadelphia, endorsed "Via Southampton", sender intended to pay 1sh British Mail rate via Southampton but underpaid it with the 6p, so the cover was sent by U.S. steamer to New York from St. Thomas (transit backstamp), Very Fine, rare usage, with 1963 B.P.A. certificate (Image) E. 750-1,000
1095 c TRANSATLANTIC MAIL VIA BELGIUM AND NETHERLANDS. 36 covers on annotated exhibit pages in one album, mainly 1840's and 50's stampless, some later incl. stamped covers, a fascinating group with markings indicating transit via Belgium or the Netherlands, incl. "Ship-Letter" applied in London on mail received from private ships from Holland or Belgium, "Allemagne Chemin-de-Fer" circular datestamp, covers to and from the U.S. incl. 1834 to Belgium via Havre Old Line, 1855 to Amsterdam via New York & Havre Line with "U.S. Pkt." straightline, scarce Collins and Inman Line covers to Belgium, depreciated currency markings, 1864 cover to Belgium with 3c & pair 12c 1861 Issue, some to U.S. or Canada with Belgian frankings, stampless covers all in excellent condition, some stamp faults, these covers range from scarce to rare, all with copious notes regarding routes, rates and markings E. 1,500-2,000

U.S.-Canada covers carried by Black Ball, Red Star, Blue Swallowtail and Red Swallowtail lines (some to G.B. via U.S.), extensive run of Cunard and Collins sailings, some with stamp frankings (Canada, Newfoundland, G.B., France), Canada Postal History incl. internal rates and markings ("Money Letter" etc.), some cross-border mail with exchange office markings incl. scarce "U. States" Shield applied at Rouse's Point, New Brunswick/Nova Scotia incl. P.E.I. origin, 1838 St. Andrews to Maine with ms. "free to the Lines" postmaster frank, 1857 "British/5d/Claim" handstamp, two U.S. 10c 1857's to Nova Scotia, generally in clean and presentable condition, all markings, routes and rates carefully described on pages, an unusual opportunity to acquire a core collection for expansion along with the information to interpret the treaties and mail contracts that governed 19th Century Canadian mails E. 4,000-5,000
