ONE OF TWO RECORDED QUADRUPLE-RATE EXPRESS USAGES WITH THE 12-CENT 1859 ISSUE. A RARE AND UNUSUAL COVER.

79 c image12c Black (36). Intense shade, tiny tear at bottom, tied by perfect strike of "San Francisco Cal. May 28" circular datestamp on yellow cover to Beloit Wis., Very Fine appearance, this correspondence has been linked to Hawaii (Image) E. 300-400

Dec. 5, 1861 double-circle datestamp, stamp with brown stain at top, used with Hawaii, 1861, 5c Blue, Thin Bluish Wove (9), three ample to large margins, in at bottom, uncancelled, large red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid Nov. 23" circular datestamp on buff cover to Woodburn, Ill., Sturges correspondence, carried on the Comet (cleared Nov. 23, arrived Dec. 4 -- a record short trip at this time), though the 5c is uncancelled and this is an early use, the Sturges correspondence is a reliable source of Kamehameha III issue mixed frankings, ex Advertiser, with 1974 P.F. certificate (Image) E. 3,000-4,000
