on 3c Pink entire (U58) to Gen. J. W. Denver in Washington D.C., ms.
"Longville Nov. 26/66" postmark, pencil docketing "Gen. Wood",
trivial stain at upper left corner, Very Fine, Allen J. Wood ran this
express from 1864 to 1866, serving Oroville, Chico, Taylorville and
Susanville, it connected with Wells, Fargo & Co. at Oroville, the Longville
post office lies about halfway between Chico and Susanville, although this
usage to the mails makes perfect sense, the accompanying P.S.E. certificate
declines opinion as to express usage, illustrated in Letters of
Gold, ex Vogel, Haas (who paid $1,200 for it in 1976) and Edwards (Image) |
