VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE STRIP OF THREE OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE.

As an indication of the rarity of 10c 1847 multiples larger than a pair, Scott assigns a value of $3,250 for a pair, but $11,000 for the strip of three. Pairs or two singles would often be used on double 10c rate covers, but strips of three, blocks of four or other large multiples were infrequently used. (Image)

52 image10c Black (2). Horizontal strip of four with sheet margin at right, Positions 37-40L, large margins to clear, bright shade, each stamp cancelled by two neat ms. penstrokes, few small faults incl. right stamp tiny pinhole and few light creases, small scissors-cut between two righthand stamps

FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE STRIP OF FOUR OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE. VERY FEW EXIST.

As an indication of rarity, Scott prices a block of four at $75,000, a strip of three at $11,000, and a pair at $3,250. Large multiples such as this were used infrequently. This probably paid the 40c transcontinental rate to California.

With 1987 P.F. certificate. Scott Retail as a strip of three and a single, which does not adequately convey the rarity or value of this item (Image)
