774 c -1/2c-10c Washington Bicentennial (704-715). Over 650 covers neatly mounted in 8 albums. Where to start?... What a fantastic holding, offered here in its entirety (except those few lots offered individually earlier in the auction), this collection is simply remarkable. A monumental accomplishment in just 20 years, here we find the finest collection of its kind we have seen. Complete sets of 12 abound including the following cachets makers: Edgerly x 2 sets one with rare unofficial R.P.O. 's, Gorham set of 12 on 11 covers (quite scarce), Hauser (1st we've seen), Aeroprint x 2 sets (each with 12 stamps on 11 covers as issued), P#52 (rare), Hobby Cover Service x 2, Carla Rose, Truby (rare) x 2 (one on 11 covers), P#66, Elliott with RARE PLATE BLOCKS, Van Der Zee, P#77 (11 on 12 covers), P#58 (rare), WSE with RARE PLATE BLOCKS, set of 12 on 4 Civil War Patriotics, P#87 1st we've seen, P#25, Fairway x 2, Stoutzenberg, Roessler x 3, Ioor, Ash (scarce), Rice x 3, Souren x 2. Thee are also two sets of 12 with rare unofficial cancels from Mount Healthy OH and Baltimore MD. We also note many individual singles as well as complete sets of 12 on ONE COVER by cachets makers including P#7 x 4, Aeroprint, Souren x 2, Unknown, WSE, Rice and two on related postcards. Where the First Days end a very few selected events begin. About 100 covers are events highlighted by a set of 13 (all 12 and one combination cover) on 6 x 9 in. magnificent "Congress of The United States" official corner card with cachet designed for very few dignitaries for the celebration, the first such set we have seen. 775 c 2c-5c 1932 Olympics (716, 718-19). Over 96 covers neatly mounted in album with 38 covers representing the No. 716 portion with highlights including Edgerly x 4 (one with Olympic autograph), Planty #9 & 19, Gorham x 3, Stoutzenberg, Crawford, Aeroprint, Nos. 718-719 make up the remainder with both singles and sets with cachet makers such as two different Crosby's (both with unofficial ship cancels), Jensen set of 2, Truby, spectacular set of 4 hand-painted "of the period" R. M. Warren covers (unique), Planty numbers 73 with contents (rare), #59 & #35 set of two. Many better items, the 4 hand-painted covers alone worthy of the low-end estimate E. 1,000-2,000 1,050.00
776 c 3c-6c 1932 Regular Issues (720-723). 74 covers neatly mounted in album incl. No. 720 combo with U526 & 718-719 (all issued the same day) plus with cachets by Rice, Ioor, etc. with plate blocks and several unofficials, 720B booklet panes x 9 with Ioor, Gorham x 2, Fairway x 2, an unofficial Constitution and two covers with singles from pane (scarce), 721-722 with a great array with pairs, strips line pairs 5 different unofficials, and finally 723 with 4 unofficials, combo with U530 (both issued the same day), Fairway, Hobby Shop, Planty #2, an excellent selecting with a surprising amount of seldom-seen unofficials E. 1,500-2,000 750.00
777 c 1c-10c National Parks (740-749). Over 460 covers neatly mounted in 5 albums represented by 40 sets. Complete sets of 10 with ether DC or Park cancels include: Clara Fawcett, Top Notch, M. APS x 2, C. W.
