-1/2c-10c Washington
Bicentennial (704-715). Complete set of twelve, also cut square Nos.
U523-U525 and U527-U528, all seventeen were issues on the same day, very
few covers exist with this multiple franking, certainly less than 20 are
known of these, this is perhaps the most interesting as it is on the
reverse of an 8 x 10 in. photograph depicting the original twelve images
from which the engraved designs of the set of Nos. 704-715 were made, it
also depicts a gentleman next to the photographs with a caption below
handwritten by Sol Bloom that says "To Boyd Crawford, with very best wishes
Sol Bloom and Herbert Hoover" -- "Herbert Hoover" is actually an original
signature of the President, probably unique and a great match to the set of
twelve individual First Day photographs offered in lot 551 (Image) |
