-1/2c-10c Washington
Bicentennial (704-715). Planty #GP7 a magnificent set of twelve covers
with official engraved corner card cachet "1732-1932 United States
Commission for the Celebration of the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the
birth of George Washington Washington Building Washington, D.C. -Official
Business", each cover is the original and exquisite official stationery
that illustrates a beautiful engraving of Washington with dedication to all
officials and commissioners involved in this grand celebration, we have
seen only one other set in 25 years and that was over 20 years ago -- it
was as we have described this set so far, but what makes this set even more
outstanding is that each cover is addressed to a different Cabinet
Member under President Hoover and each cover bears their signature --
the 10c is addressed to "The Honorable Herbert Hoover", others include
Secretaries of War, Treasury, Interior, Attorney General, etc. this is one
of only two sets known to exist with autographs and one of the most
exciting historical items we have seen, simple unsurpassed in its
historical/philatelic content (Image) |
