leftVERY FINE. AN EXTRAORDINARY FRANKING FOR THE QUADRUPLE 10-CENT DIRECT RATE TO HONG KONG VIA PACIFIC MAIL STEAMSHIP COMPANY. THIS COMBINATION OF GRILLED ISSUES IS RARELY SEEN ON COVER. Although a number of covers to Hong Kong and other Far East countries exist with the 1868 30c F Grill, almost all originated on the East Coast and were sent via British Mail (via Marseilles or Southampton) at the prevailing 34c or 42c rates. The 10c American Packet rate via San Francisco and Yokohama is represented by a fair number of 10c Grilled Issue covers (single or double rate), but quadruple rates are rare, especially with the 30c F Grill.
