Apr. 3, 1859" circular datestamp on blue folded letter from Campeche, Mexico, to Bordeaux, France, New Orleans forwarder's blue oval handstamp, red "New York Paid 6 Mar. 12" credit datestamp and French transit both tie strip, receiving backstamps, file fold

EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE USE OF THE 1857 5-CENT BRICK RED FROM MEXICO TO FRANCE VIA NEW ORLEANS.

Although strips of three of the 5c 1857 are frequently seen on covers to France, the Brick Red is much more uncommon, and this usage from Mexico is quite unusual. The quality of the strip and cover make this a highly-exhibitable and most desirable Brick Red cover.
