FRESH AND VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE USAGE OF THE 12-CENT AND 30-CENT 1861 ISSUE FROM CALIFORNIA TO INDIA.

The rate on this cover is very unusual. It was likely franked to pay the 72c rate by Bremen-Hamburg Mail via Marseilles. However, the markings indicate it was actually sent at the much cheaper 33c rate by British Mail via Southampton.
