Black double-ovals with Crowns in center on two 1814 folded letters from Antigua (Tudway correspondence) to England, both sent aboard the "Queen", also includes two additional 1834 and 1837 folded letters from Canada to London with the "step" type "Portsmouth Ship Letter" markings applied on arrival, red York and City of Toronto postmarks, matching "paid" handstamps, Fine-Very Fine lot. 2255 c Stampless British Ship Letters, 1800-52, twelve folded covers or letter, nearly all to London, markings include "Penzance Ship Letter" in stepped box (from Canada), straightline "Ship Letter" (from Tasmania), blue "Hull/Ship-Letter" and date in truncate box (from Germany), 1806 "Ship-Letter/London" and Crown (from India), blue two line "Ship-Letter Plymouth" in stepped box (from Australia), two line "Margate Ship-Lre" (from Brazil), oval 1812 "Ship Letter Deal" fancy double oval with Cown in center (Tudway corresp. from Antigua), two-line "India Letter Deal" in stepped box (1837 from Mauritius), 1824 Kingston, Jamaica postmark on folded letter to Dumfries, N.B., "America-L-" double circle, blank center (from Boston), 1800 "Post Paid Ship Lre.LONDON." on front and "Ship Lre LIVERPOOL" on back, fancy ovals with Crown in center (to Boston with brown-red Philadelphia transit handstamp), and finally a neat folded letter to Montreal with Liverpool postmark and "1s/4d Cy:" bold circle, nearly all Fine-Very Fine, an excellent lot for the specialist. Incoming to England and Scotland, late 18th Century, 13 covers mounted on well-annotated exhibition pages, markings include "Portsmouth Ship Lre" in slight arc (two), the same in two straight lines, ms. "Chesterfield Packet", "Greenock/Ship/Lre", two-line "Cowes Ship Lre", rimless "Falmouth/Ship/Lre" and one of two lines, two-line "Southhampton Ship Lre", two-line "London Ship Lre" (2 different sizes), two-line "Liverpool Ship", and two-line "Dover Ship Lre", origins include Grenada, U.S., Jamaica, Madeira, India, etc., loaded with fascinating information, generally a Fine lot E. 1,500-2,000 2,500.00
