VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY ERROR. ONLY 20 PAIRS WERE ISSUED, AND MOST HAVE BEEN LOST TO PHILATELY.

According to Canal Zone Stamps, the top five rows of one pane were missing the horizontal perforations. Evidently most of the errors were used, as only three unused pairs and two strips of three (both with perforations at bottom) are known.

VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 1907 ONE-CENT BALBOA WITH INVERTED CENTER AND OVERPRINT READING UP. ONLY 22 COPIES ARE KNOWN UNUSED.

According to Canal Zone Stamps, one pane of 100 was printed. It was sold in March 1909 to the Panama Railroad Co. and all but 22 copies were used before the error was discovered. Only about thirteen used copies were recovered after the error was noticed. The stamp offered here, with sheet margin at top, is especially desirable.

EXTREMELY FINE AND RARE EXAMPLES OF THESE OVERPRINT VARIETIES. ONLY THREE COPIES OF THE "CANAL" ONLY ERROR ARE RECORDED, AND ONLY TWO COPIES OF THE "ZONE CANAL" VARIETY ARE RECORDED.

According to Canal Zone Stamps the error was caused by a shift in the overprint, causing "Canal" only to be printed in the last vertical row. Ten were printed, of which only three are known. Curiously, 90 examples of the "Zone Canal" stamps were printed, but only two are known.

607 og image1906, 10c Violet & Black, Double Ovpt., One Reading Up (26, 26a, 26b). Left margin strip of three with "Zone" printed in sheet margin, left stamp Reading Up (Scott 26b), center stamp Double Ovpt. one reading up (Scott 26a), right stamp normal (Scott 26), original gum or large part original gum, h.r., rich colors, few small thin spots

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE UNIQUE STRIP OF THREE CONTAINING THREE DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF THE OVERPRINT.

According to Canal Zone Stamps, the overprint was originally printed too far to the right, and the left vertical row did not receive an overprint. To correct the error, the printer turned the pane, intending to print just the one missing row. However, he placed the pane too far into the press, thus two rows received the inverted overprint.

There are five copies known with the double overprint (Scott 26a) and four known with the overprint reading up (Scott 26b). These were mostly contained in an irregular block of eight with four of No. 26b and three of 26a. The strip offered here was the bottom row of the block, and is unique with three different states of the overprint. One of the two singles of Scott 26a not contained in the block is offered in the following lot.

FINE AND RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS OVERPRINT VARIETY. IT IS BELIEVED THAT ONLY TEN WERE PRINTED.

This error was caused when a sheet was misfed into the press, causing the top row to miss receiving the overprint, which was printed in the bottom sheet margin instead. Accompanied by bottom right selvage corner margin block of four with "Canal Zone" printed in bottom selvage.
