Position 1 the variety, usual tropicalized original gum described on
certificate as slightly disturbed original gum, Position 11 with inverted
"V" for first "A" of "Panama", Position 12 with inverted "N" in right
"Panama", bright color, top right stamp small thin spot not mentioned on
accompanying certificatesVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE CORNER-MARGIN BLOCK OF CANAL ZONE NO. 1 WITH THREE STAMPS CONTAINING VARIETIES. Only 52 stamps with the "Panama" reading up and down were printed. Of these, two also had "Canal Zone" inverted. Ex Plass. Colman backstamps in selvage. With 1951 and 1993 P.F. certificates. "Panama" Reading Up on Top 2c, Down on Other (1f). CZSG 1f, block of
four, Positions 44-45/54-55, both top stamps reading up, bottom stamps
reading down, original gum, top left stamp with inverted "V" for second "A"
of "Panama", brilliant colorVERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN EXTREMELY RARE BLOCK OF FOUR OF CANAL ZONE NO. 1 CONTAINING TOP PAIR WITH "PANAMA" READING UP AND BOTTOM PAIR WITH "PANAMA" READING DOWN. According to Canal Zone Stamps, this variety only occurred between the fifth and sixth horizontal rows of a pane. The variety was not often saved by early collectors and so very few are known. Double (12c). CZSG 12c, 12c.15, 12.12, left selvage block of four with
natural s.e. at bottom and part arrow at left, Positions 81-82/91-92,
Setting I with narrow spacing, bottom right stamp missing "P" of left
"Panama" and also last "A" of right "Panama" mostly missing, usual
tropicalized original gum, h.r., clear doubling of the overprint, fresh and
bright colorVERY FINE. A PARTICULARLY CHOICE AND RARE POSITION BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 5-CENTAVO WITH DOUBLE OVERPRINT. According to Canal Zone Stamps only two panes contained the error. One was from Setting I. The other was from Setting V. Most examples from Setting I were used on mail to the West Indies. Only two examples can exist with the missing "P" of "Panama" (one from each setting), therefore, this is the unique example from Setting I.
