The 3c is more challenging to find in this superior grade than many of the other grilled issues, even though it has a lower catalogue value.

H. Grill, original gum, easily discernible grill points, deep rich color
and detailed impression, choice centeringEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 1870 6-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE GRILLED ISSUE IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT STAMPS OF THE SET TO OBTAIN IN SUCH SUPERB ORIGINAL-GUM CONDITION. A GREAT CONDITION RARITY.
A review of past auction catalogues serves to demonstrate how scarce this stamp is in sound, centered, original-gum condition. The Golin collection contained an example with disturbed original gum, Lilly's copy was sound with original gum, but off center, as was the example offered in Braus. Klein owned two off-center blocks of four. Most other collectors, including Zoellner and Weisman, had to settle for copies without gum.
