EXTREMELY FINE. ONE OF THE TWO FINEST OF THE FOUR RECORDED 10-CENT 1869 RE-ISSUE COVERS, ALL OF WHICH WERE MAILED BY STAMP DEALERS IN THE 1880'S.

The 10c plus 10c postage on this cover prepays the double 5c UPU rate and 10c registry fee. This cover was not among the three recorded in the 1869 PRA census.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM STAMP AND CHOICE COVER. THE ONLY SINGLE FRANKING AMONG THE THREE RECORDED 2-CENT 1869 RE-ISSUE COVERS.

The rate to Canada, which was based on the domestic letter rate, was lowered to 2c on Oct. 1, 1883. This is not a printed matter usage, as indicated in the 1869 PRA census.
