VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL USAGE FRANKED TO PAY DOUBLE THE OBSOLETE 34-CENT RATE PERU. FROM THE DAVIS CORRESPONDENCE.

The 34c rate via American Packet, then by British Mails via Panama, was in effect from November 1867 thru March of 1870, when the rate was changed to 22c. This cover was sent just as the rate changed, and the sender was apparently unaware of the new rate, which would have been 44c for this double-weight cover.

EXTREMELY FINE AND ATTRACTIVE COMBINATION OF THE 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE AND 30-CENT 1868 F GRILL. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED 1869 COVER TO THE PHILIPPINES WITH THE RARE HONG KONG-SINGAPORE MARINE SORTER HANDSTAMP. ONE OF THE MOST SPECTACULAR AND COLORFUL 1869 USAGES EXTANT.

This cover from the Pierce correspondence is one of two examples of the 42c rate prepaid with an 1869 stamp in the franking. This is the only cover in the Pierce correspondence with the Hong Kong-Singapore Marine Sorter backstamp.

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF THREE RECORDED USAGES OF THE 15-CENT TYPE II 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE ON COVER TO INDIA.

The rate to India by British Mails was either 22c via Southampton or 30c via Marseilles. The cover offered here is franked with 32c postage. The highest rate to India was 32c via North German Union Closed Mails. The cover was sent British Mails via Marseilles, resulting in a 2c overpayment.

VERY FINE AND FRESH. A COLORFUL MIXED-ISSUE 1869 FRANKING FOR THE 28-CENT RATE TO SPAIN -- ONE OF FOUR RECORDED WITH THIS FRANKING.

Ten 24c 1869 covers to Spain are recorded in the 1869 PRA census, but one of these (with 1c and 3c stamps, ex Ishikawa) has been declared a forgery, leaving nine genuine covers. Four covers are prepaid with a combination of the 24c and two 2c Bank Note stamps.
