1c Blue, Ty. IV, 3c Dull Red
(9, 11). 1c Pos. 44L1L Double Transfer, both have large margins
to just touched, 1c paying carrier fee and tied by grid, 3c tied by
"Philadelphia Pa. May 13" circular datestamp on 1857 folded letter New
York, Very Fine, in 1856, the supply of Eagle Carriers in Philadelphia was
exhausted, and for the first time, 1c regular postage stamps were used for
the carrier fee, thus requiring a new accounting procedure -- in this
period we find rare examples of 1c 1851's used for the carrier fee, as well
as use of the black grid or U.S.P.O. oval to cancel the stamp prepaying the
