705 c imageEngland-U.S. 1806 Partial Non-Interference Act. Two items, first is stampless folded letter with two separate messages datelined "Liverpool 8th and 12th Sept. 1806" to Boston, red ms. endorsement "Recd Nov. 25th 1806 and forwarded by your humble servants Trott & Blake" where it received a "Boston Ms. Nov. 26" circular datestamp and was mailed to Pembroke, second is printed certificate with ms. 15 July 1806 date from the Marblehead Mass. postmaster, to Capt. Widger of the Brig Increase as a receipt for letters to the U.S. that he carried outside of the mail from the Isle of May with ms. "July 15, 1806 I solemnly swear that the within certificate contains the whole number of letters delivered to me on board the Brig Increase at the Isle of May for citizens of U. States -- Wm. Widger" on reverse, Very Fine, the act prohibited British imports (incl. mail) to the U.S. from April 18th 1806 until it was repealed Dec. 19th 1806 -- these are excellent examples of how the act was circumvented. Red integral-rate circular datestamp on Aug. 1, 1848 folded letter, retaliatory rate usage from Liverpool to Petersburg Va. via New York, red framed "Paid at Liverpool JU 24, 1848" handstamp and ms. "1/-" rate, datelined June 24, 1848, carried on Cunarder Caledonia June 24 from Liverpool to New York, the first voyage to the U.S. on which the retaliatory rate was applied, horizontal file fold and small stain at left, otherwise Very Fine (Image) E. 300-400 525.00

Red integral-rate circular datestamp on Jan. 26, 1849 folded letter from London to Petersburg Va., via Liverpool and New York, red "Paid 9 Fe 9 1849" circular datestamp, carried on Cunarder Europa on the last voyage to U.S. during restored rate period, accompanied by second restored rate cover from London to Petersburg Va. via Liverpool and Boston (same correspondence) with "Boston Ms. Ship Feb. 12" rimless circular datestamp and "12" handstamp, red "Paid 26 Ja. 26 1849" circular datestamp, carried on Cunarder Nicaragua, both with ms. "1/-" rate and "Fenchurch St." straightline handstamp, both with horizontal file fold, still Very Fine and scarce (Image) E. 500-750 550.00

Eight folded letters from London or Liverpool to Petersburg Va. via New York or Boston, each different in some way, seven 34c rates and one 68c double rate, each with red "Paid" origin datestamp and shilling mark, five with "Fenchurch St." straightline handstamp, identified by sailing, Very Fine group E. 1,000-1,500 750.00
