Md.. 3c Rose (65), faded color, ms. cancel, tied by "Annapolis Md. Jan.
15, 1863" circular datestamp, pencil "EX" at top of cover with large blue
portrait of Maj. Gen. Geo. B. McClellan at left, original matching
enclosure datelined "Camp Parole, Annapolis Jan. 14th, 1863", to
West Lowville N.Y., soldier writes "I suppose we are all exchanged and I
suppose we will rejoin our regiments...", cover with small faults,
otherwise Very Fine, ex Antrim and with his April 1962 Confederate
Philatelist article that pictures and describes this cover and letter.
He writes that covers from the six Federal Parole camps, of which Camp
Parole is one, are very scarce and hard to detect unless the letter is
still in the envelope, Harrison reports only 25 covers known (Image) |
