90c Blue (72). Original
gum described by the P.F. as previously hinged, but we respectfully
disagree, beautifully centered, bright color and sharp
impressionEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A GORGEOUS ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1861 ISSUE. RARE IN THIS SUPERIOR GRADE. In our opinion, the gum on this stamp is Mint Never Hinged. The gum is evenly applied and does not show a single blemish or surface irregularity to indicate it is previously hinged, even under high magnification. This stamp also features superior centering, color and impression. Many of our previous catalogues have noted the rarity of 1861-66 Issues in Extremely Fine original-gum condition, and realizations have supported our assessment. This stamp unquestionably ranks among the finest known, and it is a strong candidate for being the finest known example of the 90c 1861. If the P.F. would confirm our opinion that the gum is Mint Never Hinged, this stamp would probably fetch $40,000 or more. With 1999 P.F. certificate (Image) |
