Apr. 7, 1928 duplex, blue and red handstamped cachets for U.S. Army Air Service, backstamped Manila Apr. 8 duplex and U.S. Army Apr. 8 blue oval receiving datestamps, both stamps have usual climatic toning, 16c natural s.e. at left and pulled perf at bottom FINE. AN EXTRAORDINARILY RARE USE OF THE 16-CENT SAMPSON WITH RED MADRID-MANILA FLIGHT OVERPRINT. Two of the rarest stamps of the Philippines 1928 Madrid-Manila Overprint set are the 16c Sampson with overprints in Black (C7) or Red (C8). The Red overprint is valued in Scott at $3,750.00 unused and $3,000.00 used (no value is given for a cover). In searching dozens of major Air Post sales, we have located only one other cover.
