Originally, the design of the vignette was attributed to Clair Aubrey Houston, but the discovery of this essay proves that the vignette was designed by Marcus W. Baldwin. (Image)

drawing almost exactly matching adopted design with only "Centenary" on the
essay changed to "Celebration", small mounting adherences on back
cornersEXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE UNIQUE WASH DRAWING OF THE VIGNETTE FOR THE HUDSON-FULTON ISSUE.

Card (372-E3). 126 x 100mm (5 x 4in -- incorrectly listed in Scott as 4
x 3in), wash drawing of frame with vignette cut out and mounted over
photograph of No. 372-E1, typed "Approved -- August 17, 1909 Postmaster
General." at bottom and "August 19, 1909. Amend by substituting word
'Celebration' for 'Centenary' Postmaster General" at right and signed
"F.H. Hitchcock" in both places, initials and pencil "P.O.
488" in bottom right corner, few minor faults do not
detractEXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE UNIQUE COMPOSITE MODEL FOR THE HUDSON-FULTON ISSUE.

tiny nick in bottom margin (easily trimmed), otherwise Extremely Fine and

Specimen. Three singles with natural s.e. at left, tied by two strikes
of large magenta "Postes et Telegraphes * Madagascar * Collection De Bern"
double circle handstamps at top left on 275 x 361mm page with Director of
Posts handstamp and signature at bottom right, sheet with scissors cut at
right center and creases from folding to fit an exhibit page, otherwise
Very Fine, sent by the U.P.U. to the Postmaster of Madagascar who dutifully
placed them in his archives (Image)

Mint N.H. top right pane of 60 with wide selvage on both sides, rich color,
remarkably fresh and intact, centering varies as usualFINE-EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL MINT NEVER HINGED PANE OF THE 2-CENT HUDSON-FULTON PERFORATED ISSUE.

Tied by "Troy N.Y. Sep. 23, 1909 9AM" pre-first day duplex cancel on
mourning cover to Wellsburg N.Y., Wellsburg receiving backstamp, stamp with
perf faults at right from placement near edge of cover, otherwise Extremely
Fine, one of only two known with this date, which is the current
earliest documented usage, the other is in a private collection and
will not be available for quite some time.
