Turnpike Stock Certificate. No. 183, dated Mar. 16, 1795, signed by
William Bingham as President and Tench Francis as Secretary,
issued to George Roberts, beautiful illustrated vignette of horse-drawn
covered wagon approaching turnstile, two light folds, Very Fine and
historical -- the Pennsylvania and Lancaster Turnpike was the country's
first important turnpike and first long-distance road paved with broken
stone and gravel, the certificate is also one of the earliest with an
illustrated vignette -- William Bingham was one of the first American
