Dec. 14, 1858" circular datestamp on folded cover to Vera Cruz, Mexico, neat "8" reales due handstamp and ms. ship endorsement "per Tennessee", strip has faint even gum toning, tiny tear at top of first stamp at left (not mentioned on accompanying certificate)

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE MULTIPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1857 ISSUE FROM PLATE 1, PAYING SIX TIMES THE 10-CENT RATE TO MEXICO.

Used with 3c Dull Red (26), both stamps tied by bold strikes of red New York "Supplementary Mail" Type A handstamp, third strike at bottom of 1860 folded letter to Marseilles, France, red "New York Paid 3 Jul. 28" credit datestamp, carried aboard the Vanderbilt Line's Vanderbilt (American Packet), small boxed "PD", ultramarine Havre transit, transit and receiving backstamps, stamps centered to one side, slightly toned, horizontal file fold away from stamps, Very Fine, a colorful and extremely rare New York Supplementary Mail cover carried by the short-lived Vanderbilt Line, the premium for sending the cover via Supplementary Mail was paid in cash, ex Sevenoaks, with 2001 P.F. certificate (Image) E. 2,000-3,000 6,750.00
