AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE "CHINA" ONLY SURCHARGE, WHICH IS MISSING BOTH THE "SHANGHAI" AND THE DENOMINATION. As shown by this pair and the block offered in lot 234, the "China" Only and "Shanghai" Missing errors probably resulted from a foldover or overlap that prevented part of the surcharge from printing on the top row of one sheet. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE BLOCK OF THE 4-CENTS PROVISIONAL OVERPRINT WITH THE TOP STAMPS MISSING "SHANGHAI" The top stamps in this block show the "Shanghai" Missing error and, upon closer examination, the tops of the numeral "4" and letter "C" of "Cts." of the left stamp are missing. This error and the "China" Only error in lot 233 are believed to have come from the top row of one sheet, which was affected by a foldover or overlap that prevented the surcharged from printing completely.
