Huge margins to just barely in incl. part of adjoining stamp at top, tied by bold target cancel on buff cover originating at Port Rowan, Upper Canada, and addressed to Danville Pa., red "Port Rowan U.C. JU 8, 1855" circular datestamp, red "Canada/Paid 10cts" handstamp and "Paid 6d" in circle, stamp lifted and replaced in exact position from which it originated, missing small part of bottom flap

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN IMMENSELY RARE USAGE OF THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE. ONLY SIX EXAMPLES OF THIS STAMP USED FROM CANADA ARE RECORDED.

Despite the sender's intention to prepay postage with a United States stamp affixed in Canada, it was not accepted as prepayment. The entire rate was paid in cash in Canada, but the Canadian post office took care to cancel the stamp with its standard target.
