2417 c image3c Red, Nesbitt entire, Horizontal Laid Lines and Upright Watermark (U1 var, USPSS 1a). Red "G. Nesbitt N.Y." seal on backflap, entire with horizontal laid lines and upright watermark reading horizontally and running down the center of the envelope, addressed to New Orleans, cancelled by two strikes of "Way" handstamp, red "New Orleans La. Nov. 25" (1853) circular datestamp, minor sealed tear at top from opening, otherwise Very Fine, rare first-issue Nesbitt entire -- this watermark variety is unlisted in Scott, in a Linn's article by Richard B. Graham (Feb. 18, 2002), he states that this variety "is really the first U.S. stamped envelope", preceding the diagonally watermarked entires (Image) E. 1,000-1,500 1,000.00

Six entires with dark repeating pattern of "United States Air Mail Postage 6c" printed in mirror image on inside of envelope, creating right-reading faint image on entire outside, three in blue on plain envelopes, three in red on red-and-blue bordered "Via Air Mail" envelopes, one of each type with 6c Red UC25 embossed stamp, both stamped envelopes and one of each type of others with red "CANCELED" handstamp, Extremely Fine, a new discovery in the essay and postal stationery field (Image) E. 3,000-4,000 4,000.00
