Diagonal Half Used on Cover (12c var). Top left part of stamp with no
indication of stamp's denomination, large margins, tied across the cut by
bold "Macon Ga. Feb. 8" double-circle datestamp on cover addressed to
"Miss Mag. Armour, Davidson College N.C.", some slight toning spots,
Very Fine, there was no longer a 5c rate by the time this stamp was issued,
however, given the address, it is likely that a female student at another
school successfully fooled the post office by using a 10c bisect in lieu of
a 20c (young female students were frequent stamp re-users), accompanied by
short article from Feb. 1951 issue of Confederate Bulletin (Image) |
