31L7, huge margins all around incl. part of two adjoining stamps and
part sheet margin and imprint at left, bold "Prov. & Stonington
R.R. Mar. 22" route agent's cds, sheet margin cut to shape of postmark,
light vertical crease far out in left margin, otherwise Extremely Fine (Image)

Left margin vertical strip of three with imprint and plate no. 7,
Positions 41/51/61L7, neat "Oxford O. Nov. 18, 1858" cds, top left corner
of selvage clipped, few perf separations and toned spots, small crease in
bottom selvage only, still almost Fine, this is the only reported example
of Plate 7 perforated with the plate no.

plate no. reversed, original gum, h.r., rich color, few faults incl.
crease at lower left, some perf separations and small tears in sheet margin

color, tied by "New-York Sep. 16, 1857" cds on buff cover to Washington
D.C., additional 1857 docketing at left, some perfs affected from
scissors-separation, Fine early usage, the earliest recorded usage of this
stamp is only two days earlier (Image)

right, deep rich color, tied by bold "Portsmouth N.H. Dec. 1" cds on
orange cover, Very Fine and choice, Scott 26a was produced only from Plates
10 and 11, this is the only known example from Plate 10 Early with plate
no. on cover, plated by Chase, ex Amonette

several strikes of red grids on 1857 orange cover to Waren, Mecklenburg,

blue ms. "3", Hamburg backstamps, block s.e. at bottom, some tiny creasing
in bottom pairVERY FINE. AN EXTRAORDINARY USAGE. THE UNIQUE EXAMPLE OF THE TYPE IIa BLOCK WITH PLATE NO. AND IMPRINT ON COVER.
The recently introduced Bremen-Hamburg rate was 15c, as there is no evidence of a missing stamp, the remaining 3c appears to have been paid in cash.
