three page folded letter with sender's notation "From James Haske,
seaman H.M. Ship Curacoa, Rio de Janiero, Aug. 1, 1843", and signed
below by the Commanding Officer, addressed to Halifax, Yorkshire,
with note at end reading "I have put a stamp on this letter and if you
have any more to pay you must let me know ... some of our chaps ... always
stitch a penny on one corner"VERY FINE AND CHOICE USAGE OF THE ONE-PENNY RED ON INCOMING SAILOR'S MAIL.

Orange on Bluish Paper (93a, SG 133). Original gum, remarkably
well-centered, detailed impression clearly shows the intricate latticework,
R.P.S. certificate states "gum very toned causing discolorisation", but the
stamp still has intense vivid color and the gum is only lightly
tonedEXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE £5 VICTORIA IN ORIGINAL-GUM CONDITION. A GREAT RARITY AND ONE OF THE KEY STAMPS IN THE COMPLETION OF A GREAT BRITAIN COLLECTION.
