Ship Curacoa, Rio de Janiero, Aug. 1, 1843", and signed below by the Commanding Officer, addressed to Halifax, Yorkshire, with note at end reading "I have put a stamp on this letter and if you have any more to pay you must let me know ... some of our chaps ... always stitch a penny on one corner"

VERY FINE AND CHOICE USAGE OF THE ONE-PENNY RED ON INCOMING SAILOR'S MAIL.

Original gum, remarkably well-centered, detailed impression clearly shows the intricate latticework, R.P.S. certificate states "gum very toned causing discolorisation", but the stamp still has intense vivid color and the gum is only lightly toned
